Vancamper Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used and shared when you access our websites, services, APIs or mobile applications (together, “App”). If we update it, we will revise the date, place notices on Vancamper if changes are material, and/or obtain your consent as required by law.

Personal Information We Collect

Device Information

When you use the App, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, operating system, IP address and time zone.

Additionally, as you browse the App, we collect information about the individual areas or posts that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the App, and information about how you interact with the App. We refer to this automatically-collected information as Device Information.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  1. Cookies: these are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
  2. Log files: these track actions occurring on the app, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  3. Servers: our servers (which are hosted by a third party service provider) collect information about you, including your browser type, operating system, IP address, domain name and date of your request.

Information you provide us:

Additionally, when you use the App, certain features or services require you to provide us with personal information. We refer to this information as user provided information. These include:

  1. Account information: If you create an account using the App, we will collect personal data from you, including your first and last name, email address and password. Your password is never stored nor logged in plain text.
  2. Listings: If you create a listing using the app, we collect the text and photographs you provide us and make this information available publicly for other users to see. Your first name is publicly available when viewing a listing. Your first and last name is made available to other users who message you. We never reveal your email address to other users in the App.
  3. Messaging: If you message a buyer or seller using the App, we track basic metadata about these messages, including when they were sent and whether they been read by the recipient. We do not share or disclose the contents of user messages with any third parties or other Users of the App (other than the intended recipient of the message). We do monitor messages sent within the App for signs of potential fraud, spam or suspicious behavior.
  4. Purchases: If you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the App, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, payment information, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as “Order Information.” This information is shared with our payment provider, Stripe.
  5. Location Sharing: If you choose to filter listings by location, we will use the location information you provide us to localize the results. If you enable location services on your device, we may use this information to make listings more relevant to your current location.

How do we use your personal information?

When we talk about Personal Information in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and User Provided Information.

Broadly speaking, the personal information you provide us with is collected to improve the quality of services provided by the App. We use your personal information in the following ways:

General use:

  1. Providing you with an account to use the App
  2. Provide the services you request (for example, messaging buyers or sellers, post listings, tracking favorite posts)
  3. Sending you a welcome email to verify that you are the legitimate owner of the email address associated with your account
  4. Send you notification emails if you receive new messages in the App
  5. Send you emails to assist with accounting services, for example: password recovery or changing your email
  6. Send you administrative emails, such as those linked to security or maintenance advisories
  7. Respond to any inquiries that you have with the App, for example - a support, bug or feature request

How do we use your device information?

Broadly speaking, we use your device information to understand how our App is used from a technical perspective. For example, what browsers, devices or operating systems are the most popular amongst our users. We also collect error reports which are used by our developers to help them diagnose and fix bugs in the App.

Anonymized Data:

We may create anonymized data records based upon your App usage to improve the quality of the services we provide. These records have all personal identifying information removed (e.g. first name, last name, email).

Disclosure of your personal data:

We do not share, license or swap your information with any third parties without your consent, except from what is described below:

Users:

We will share your first and last name with other Users for the sole purpose of enhancing App services. For example: we show your name to another user when you message them (or they message you). We also show your first name next to content you post - for example, when you list a vehicle for sale. We also share some basic information about your public profile with other users, including the month and year you created your account and whether you have made a payment with us before.

Amazon SES:

We use a third-party provider, Amazon Simple Email Service, to send email notifications and promotional emails. You can read more about Amazon's SES privacy policy here: https://aws.amazon.com/privacy/

Google Analytics:

When someone uses our App we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect Device Information. We use this information to determine what kind of devices interact with our App and track the popularity of various pages.

Sentry

We use Sentry.io to collect error reports and Device Information to gain insight into any errors our users experience whilst using the App. Further information on Sentry’s privacy policy can be viewed here: https://sentry.io/privacy/

Stripe

We use Stripe to handle any purchases made within the App. Like most payment providers, Stripe collects your name, address and credit card information to process your payment. We do not store any of your credit card information on our servers. You can view Stripe's privacy policy here: https://stripe.com/privacy

Other

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights. This includes providing information to vendors or service providers on our behalf (e.g. payment processing, fraud prevention, identity verification).

Advertising
  1. We do not run ads, other than the listings posted by our users, or affiliate links to partner services.
  2. We do not employ tracking devices for marketing purposes
  3. We do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals (see allaboutdnt.com)
International Users

If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below.

Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the App), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

California Users

  1. We do not sell personal information
  2. You can delete your account at any time (this removes all personal information we hold on you)
  3. You can contact us using the email address below to request all information we hold on you
  4. As per our Terms of service, you must be of at least 18 years of age to use Vancamper. CA residents under the age of 18 with an account with Vancamper may delete their account themselves or request and obtain a removal of any content or information publicly posted on Vancamper.
Data retention
  1. We will maintain a record of your account for as long as your account is active
  2. Post information (such as text, photographs and associated messages) are retained until the post is expired or deleted
  3. Favorites are retained for as long as your account or the corresponding post is active
Account Deletion

You can choose to delete your account at any time. As a general rule, when your account is deleted, we also delete all personal information we hold on you, including your profile information, favorites, posts, messages and any photographs you have uploaded. There are few exemptions to this rule:

  1. Order information: Any purchases you make in the App are recorded for as long as we need the information to fulfil accounting, tax and regulatory requirements. This means we will maintain a record of the transaction even if you chose to delete your account.
  2. Device Information and logs: information collected by 3rd parties (such as Amazon SES, Sentry, Google Analytics, Stripe, etc) is not automatically deleted when you remove your account. For more information on how long these companies retain your information, please refer to their privacy policies.
  3. Archival data: We archive some metadata about posts/messages which can be used in the event that we detect fraud, spam or misuse of our services.
Credit Cards

For any online purchases made in the app, we use a 3rd party provider - Stripe. We do not process, record or maintain your credit card or bank account information. To understand more about this please refer to Stripe’s documentation and privacy policy - https://stripe.com/us/privacy.

Minors

The App is not intended for individuals under the age of 18, as detailed in our Terms of Use. We do not intentionally gather personal data from visitors who are under the age of 13. If a minor under 13 submits personal data to us and we learn that the information is of a child under 13, we will delete the information as soon as possible. If you believe that we may have personal data for a child under 13, please contact us using the information below.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. When we do this, we’ll include the date of which the update was made, and a revision number. You should consult this policy regularly for any changes.
