Weekend Vans - Everything you need, nothing you don’t. We go camping to spend time with our kids and/or friends. To get away from screens. To catch fish, or waves, or have snowball fights on the side of the road. We wanted a way to do this as simply as possible, without setting up tents, or leveling an RV. We’re on a budget, so our van needs to be a daily driver. It also needs to be reliable, never leaving us stranded on the side of the road. We knew we needed the most reliable van out there. Sprinters looked great, but every company we saw converting them to RVs were charging an arm and a leg. We were not living in our van full time, so we don’t need a sink. Or a crazy power inverter setup. Or shiplap ceilings. But we do need lights. And to charge our phones. And a cooler that doesn’t need ice. And a warm shower after a surf would be nice. This is why we went with Weekend Vans. They help families get outside (without a second mortgage) since 2020. These vans drive and sleep 5 people. You would be hard pressed to find a buildout with this design. We purchased this van in September 2023 as the second owner. We had intentions of owning this van as our last RV. Due to the military lifestyle, we have received orders overseas and won’t be able to take our van. Sadly, this leaves us with the most difficult decision of letting “Squishy” go. We took this van on road trips to Washington along the 101/1, to Big Bear, countless trips around San Diego, kids sporting tournaments, hunting trips. If you’re like us, we initially desired a AWD/4WD vehicle. After much deliberation we went with a 2WD. One thing to consider when deciding between 2WD/AWD/4WD is the massive increase of fuel economy with the 2WD. You will be hard pressed to find an RV (towed, drivable, van configuration, etc) that has a fuel range of 19-21 mpg when fully loaded. This van has zero problems maintaining speed or accelerating to 90 mph. This van fits in normal parking spaces and holds a tight turning radius. We added removable carpet squares for more comfort. Add some Tupperware bins under the beds for cookware and be on your way. Mercedes factory bench seat mounted into factory mounting points. Two 68” x 73” (king-ish) aluminum bunk beds with 3” (6” on bottom bunk) memory foam mattresses are a great place to lay your head after a long day of catching fish (or just fishing). Mercedes’ 3.0L V6 Diesel has a ton of power, but still gets us about 19-21 MPG on the highway. Electrical system is designed to provide continuous energy for a cooler, lights, fan, and USB ports. In years of camping with this setup, we’ve never had our battery go dead. We also have run the wiring necessary to add an inverter and a cabin heater. Having a combination cooler / freezer that doesn’t need ice is a game changer. There is nothing better after a few long days of hiking in the mountains than coming back to a pint of cold Ben & Jerry’s in your van. The 73Q ARB Cooler / Freezer has enough space to store food for our family o four for several days. While we think having a shower and sink inside the van is overkill, having a spray nozzle in the back of the van to wash sand off of your kids’ feet or a dirty mountain bike is pretty great. Add the fact that a propane tankless hot water heater can get that shower to 120 degrees, and you have a recipe for a delightful post-surf shower. * 2020 MB Sprinter 144 High Top * 2x4 drive for maximum fuel economy (21 mpg) * 6 Cylinder Diesel * Factory options generally include comfort package, Backup camera, trailer hitch, etc * 350W Renogy Solar Panel system * 100Ah LiFePO4 battery * Victron MPPT Charger * Victron DC-DC Charger * MaxxAir 7500k Ceiling Fan w/ remote * ARB Zero 73Q electric cooler/freezer * RB Components Headliner Shelf * AdventureWagon Mule Bag Locker * 20 gallon fresh water tank * Tankless hot water heater and shower * Interior LED Lights * Aluminum bed panels * 3M Thinsulate Insulated walls and ceiling * Removable swivel table * Mountable smart TV * 180 degree driver and passenger front swivel seats * 4x extra push button lights near beds with remote * Rear view mirror has line-of-sight out the rear windows * Magnetic window covers for all windows and storage bag * Recent maintenance: cabin filter, air filter, transmission fluid, oil filter, oil change, EGR cleaning * Ready for your next trip today
