Seller's Description
2016 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 2016 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 From six-month build in early 2017 to backcountry dispersal camping last week, this Sprinter has been a delight to work on, drive, and live aboard. It has proved to be capable, reliable, and safe. More than half of its mileage is on gravel or dirt. Those roads and where they lead are the main reason we have a van. Its cozy interior features cedar, fir, and oak, a swivel front passenger seat, a settee with table and an easily deployed comfy half-Murphy double bed. Secure lockers provide abundant storage for your gear and pantry. LED lights illuminate work or mood, a pure sine wave inverter produces 120v to grind your coffee or charge your tools and devices, and an ARB fridge keeps your grub and drinks chilled, all powered by roof-mounted solar panels feeding an AGM house battery bank with engine charging underway if needed. Chilly outside? An Eberspacher diesel air heater keeps you warm and toasty when the engine's off. The Mercedes Sprinter is a solid, safe, and road-friendly van. A marvelous suspension is suited to a mix of travel on the freeway or the dirt. Ground clearance is exceptional. The fuel-efficient turbo diesel/7 speed automatic combo has plenty of oomph to power up hills and keep you at the cruise-control speed limit on the Interstate. If we ask it to, it'll do 80 without breathing hard, but we generally prefer a slower pace. Back roads do lead to solitude, but sometimes its a ways to get to their beginning. A van is about the journey as well as the destination. While the 7 speed automatic transmission is good at choosing the right gear, the versatile and convenient manual shift ability coupled to posi-traction can tune your speed and power to specific road conditions whether you're climbing hills, navigating washboard, or engine-breaking, gearing down for the trucker-famous Cabbage Hill on the I-84 into Pendleton, or descending a narrow, rutted two-track into the wild and scenic Salmon to set up your riverside wilderness fish camp. Not to mention enhancing performance on the climb back out! On numerous occasions, this Sprinter effortlessly towed a 1500# 32' sailplane trailer back and forth from Skagit, WA to Hope, BC. While handy for the view astern under all circumstances, the full-color, wide-angle rear-view camera was an especially valuable assistant for long-trailer towing, and the self-contained cooking, relaxing and sleeping comforts were the envy of many of other the soaring pilots commuting a couple hours both ways from Vancouver during multiple day events. If this is such a fantastic van, why are we selling? Building the next one... Contact me to arrange a chat, and we can discuss how this fully-functional Sprinter van might fit into your future plans.
