Seller's Description

It's with a great amount of regret that I'm posting my sweet '85 Vanagon, Nora, for sale. I've put a lot of love, money, beer, sweat, and swear words into this build, but I've decided to focus on building another rig and can't justify having both. I'll throw in a brief overview, and list all the nitty-gritty details down below. I'll give her a wash/vacuum and get better pictures up soon when it isn't raining, but wanted to go ahead and get this post going. To start, I've owned this van for 4 years, and have been steadily improving and wrenching on her since day one. Originally bought off a Cadillac dealership here in Denver, she lived most of her life in Fairplay, CO and was owned by a couple prior to me picking her up. I lived in this van full time for a hot minute, and loved every single minute of it. I just finished up a 5,000 mile road trip up North, and she didn't skip a beat the entire time. I've documented pretty much every single improvement and service form for this van; here are the details: The Good: - Rebuilt 2.5 Subaru SOHC engine from SunWest Motors out in WA ($1,650) https://sunwestautoinc.com/ - Rebuild heads from Ehnes Rink Auto Supply ($635) - VanCafe Subaru conversion kit ($5,200) https://vancafe.com/subaru-vanagon-4-cyl-conversion-diy-kit/ - VanCafe custom wiring harness from '03 Subaru Outback - Stainless steal coolant pipes - Brand new clutch and flywheel - High torque starter adapter from Westy Ventures ($80) - BOSCH high torque starter ($245) - GoWesty new wheel bearings ($60) - VanCafe 1.5" lift springs all around ($270) - Diesel powered heater with 10L tank ($200) - 100w solar setup with power bank ($450) - Gary Lee VW rack with spare tire carrier ($700) - 5 GoWesty 16" alloy wheels with lug locks ($1,000) - New Falken WildPeak A/T tires ($1,000) - New full size spare General Grabber ($150) - GoWesty Deluxe mirror kit ($110) - VanCafe Big Shot shifter ($390) - Trasharoo tire storage pack ($50) - T3 Powerflex Radius Rod/Anti-roll bar bushing replacement ($270) - GoWesty new fuel pump from ($65) - VanCafe Twin Peaks front and rear bumper with integrated hitch ($1,200) - GoWesty fridge elimination kit ($125) - GoWesty complete ABS interior ($525) - GoWesty grab handles ($40) - GoWesty performance brake pads - GoWesty LED dash lights - GoWesty fuel tank reseal kit and refurbished/coated gas tank ($250) - GoWesty dash cover - GoWesty aftermarket window cranks - TheBusDepot poptop lift assist kit ($90) - TheBusDepot complete pop-top seal kit ($80) - GoWesty steering wheel wrap ($50) - GoWesty extra heavy duty Bilstein shock front/rear ($500) - GoWesty axle rebuild kit ($300) - ScanGauge 2 to monitor systems/read codes ($200) - Brand new battery with 2 year warranty ($180) - GoWesty full window insulation kit ($180) - LED headlights - Midland CB Radio ($70) - Official Volkswagen Vanagon repair manual (Priceless... but if you had to buy one it'd be about $100) - Full set of spare keys for all doors/gas cap/ignition This is a list of all the big stuff I've done, but there's plenty of little things I left out because the list would get too long. Like I said, I have a giant folder of pretty much everything I've done to this van, and I'll be happy to show it if you come and take a look at it in person. Now the question, "Well what's WRONG with it?". Glad you asked. I've used this van for what it was intended for, from surfing in Mexico, skiing in Montana, rafting in Idaho, and chilling at your local Denver park. The body is the main downside, she has rust and dents as shown in the pictures below. While I can turn a wrench and put a new engine in this thing, body work is definitely not my strong suite. I like doing things myself and haven't had the time/money/skill to have someone fix the rough edges. The frame is clean and solid and multiple websites sell full body replacement panels. So, if you're down for a little body work and want a mechanically bulletproof Westy (bet you never heard that sentence before) this is for you. The Bad: - The radio faceplate is a bit funky, still works, just needs to be replaced at some point - The odometer broke at 198k before I bought the van, true mileage is unknown. Estimated to be around 250k. Only 20k on the rebuilt Ej25 - ABS headliner wasn't an exact fit, and I haven't gotten around to taking it out and shaving it down a bit. It droops. - Missing driver and passenger side door handle liner. Doesn't effect usability. - The body mentioned and pictured - Normal wear and tear for a 38 year old vehicle I'm sure there are some other little quarks that I'm overlooking because I've grown accustomed to them, but if you're curious about anything in particular, shoot me a text/email/call and I can send you pictures or give you more info. After looking on Facebook/Craigslist/TheSamba and evaluating prices, I'm asking $22500 OBO. I've put over 16k of documented work into this van, and yeah there's still more to improve, but it's a pretty sweet turnkey getaway vehicle that still has loads of life left and is a hoot and a half to drive. I understand that there are better Vanagon bodies out there, but very few will come with all the extras included in this one, and the ones that do will be priced above 45k. Feel free to contact me in regards to seeing specific pictures or setting up a time to see it in person. Cheers
