Meet Lion’s Gate, our 2020 Ford Transit 250 conversion van. It features a high-roof and a ‘regular’ wheelbase—so you can park in normal parking spots. Our stealthy van is fully loaded: warm and toasty in the winter with a Wabasto heater and summer-ready with a Maxx Air fan and Havelock wool insulation. We purchased the van August 2020 during an auspicious time astrologically called the Lions Gate Portal, hence her name. She is a portal to ultimate freedom whether you’re looking for an adventure van or full-time living. It took about a year to convert her from a brand new empty cargo van to a cozy tiny home/apothecary on wheels. We decided to go with a hybrid-conversion: my husband (the engineer) created and installed all of the systems and then hired a professional carpenter to do all of the woodwork and cabinetry. The van has a luxury feel with cedar paneling, modern Italian oak drawer pulls, copper accents, imported Turkish fabric headboard, soft close drawers, and forest-green bottom cabinets. A hot shower is just right off the back of the van, with a 30 gallon water tank you’re all set for off-grid adventures. With 420watt solar panels charging 400Ah batteries (coupled with a cellphone signal booster), it makes for the perfect remote work/digital nomad life. Gourmet cooking is a breeze with a full kitchen that includes a large 23 inch hammered copper sink, fridge, freezer, 3 burner gas stove, and oven. We have been on the road full-time for 6 months, comfortably enjoying the west coast but unfortunately a new job move calls for more time in the office and putting roots down once again.
