Seller's Description
Meet Dora the Explorer, a 1999 Volkswagen LT28, the European cousin to the Mercedes Sprinter and the predecessor to the Volkswagen Crafter. Our trusty and noble camper van has taken us on some pretty epic adventures, but Life has us sidelined for the foreseeable future and we won’t be venturing anytime soon, which is a shame. With all the upgrades and improvements we had done, we basically got her all dressed up for nowhere to go. So we’ve decided it’s now time for her to take others on new epic adventures. Bigger, tougher, and built for adventure, the LT28 is essentially a European Mercedes Sprinter with a VW engine. She’s a right-hand drive, stick-shift, diesel machine, straight from Jolly Old England. She was imported into the US and now has a clean Colorado title, and is ready to keep on adventuring with new owners. Will she haul arse up a mountain? Not really – she’ll give it ~55 mph in the right lane up mountains. Though she cruises comfortably along rolling highways over 70 mph (and I did have her going over 90 mph out of curiosity on European highways) so she is definitely not a slow-poke. But her superpower is her fuel economy – she averages around 30 MPG, which is pretty fantastic for a camper van. Mechanical Details: * 2.5L SDI diesel engine — legendary for reliability * 25-35 MPG depending on driving habits/weight/terrain * Manual transmission * 163,400 original miles (which is nothing for a diesel of this caliber — if you know, you know) * Just serviced: fluids flushed & replaced, timing belt done, brake system refreshed (new hoses, calipers, pads), new steering column shaft * Rust repair & restoration completed (still some superficial cosmetic spots, but she’s solid underneath) * New roof rack + rear step Camper Build Features: * Solar panel & house battery for off-grid power * Brand new kitchen setup: sink with water pump, 2-burner stovetop, fridge that runs on gas or solar, your choice * Laminate wood-look flooring (durable & easy to clean) * Two rear benches face each other & convert into a cozy bed (storage space under the benches * Clean, simple, and functional — ready for weekends away or full-time vanlife Her Story: Dora is British-born, spending her early life meandering through the English countryside and taking her previous owners to many a horse race before we bought her and roadtripped around England, France, and Holland. She then crossed the Atlantic, landed in Baltimore, and we then road-tripped across the US to Colorado, where she’s now registered (clean title). She’s got soul, character, and more adventures ahead. Asking $32,000 OBO Located in Northern Colorado (Fort Collins). Dora’s looking for her next caretaker who’ll take her exploring instead of letting her sit. Give a call, send a text, or an email if you’d like more photos, videos, or would like to come check her out. Thanks for reading and happy roadtripping!
