Seller's Description
1986 VW Westfalia Weekender “Tootsie” – $12,900 Tootsie isn’t the prettiest girl at the dance — but she’ll get you home. This 1986 Volkswagen Westfalia Weekender is water-cooled and powered by the 2.1L engine (not the 1.9), giving her a little more pep in her step. She’s a manual 4-speed, the way these vans were meant to be driven. She recently had head gaskets done, along with additional small fixes while the engine was out, and was just inspected by the same mechanic who completed the work. I have 10 years of service records, plus documentation from previous owners dating back to 1992. During my time with her, the goal was simple: drive well and be functional. This wasn’t a restoration — it was a revival. I invested in mechanical reliability over cosmetic upgrades. MAJOR MAINTENANCE COMPLETED In my stewardship, she’s received: • Rear main seal • New exhaust system • Radiator • Gas lines • Coolant lines/leak addressed • Water pump • Alternator belt • Clutch kit • Front brake pads • Rear shoes • Brake drums • New tires When I first purchased Tootsie, I asked my mechanic what he would say if I told him I wanted to take her on a coastal road trip. He said: “I’d tell you to take a different car.” After the recent work and tune-up, I asked him the same question. This time he said: “She’s ready to go.” WEEKENDER LAYOUT The Weekender has no built-in kitchen, which means more open interior space. Includes: • Fold-out table • Rear-facing seat • Pop-top bed + lower bed • Comfortably sleeps four HIGHLIGHTS • Pop-top tent replaced • Awning included • Three sets of Yakima racks included • Passed smog • Registration paid through April 2027 • Driven regularly and maintained thoughtfully Mechanically sorted and ready for the next chapter. Perfect for family camping trips, coastal overnights, festival weekends, or temporarily convincing your kids you’re cool. KNOWN QUIRKS (because we all have a few after 40 years) • Paint and body show age • Vintage VW sounds and personality included • Stereo needs attention (BYO Bluetooth speaker) • Heat works / A.C. does not Recently completed head gaskets and consistent documentation reflect the care she’s received. No known mechanical gremlins. If you’re looking for flawless, buy from a collector. If you’re looking for character, capability, and a van that’s ready for adventure — she’s your girl.
