For Sale: DIY Camper Van Conversion Color: Silver | Mileage: 37,350 This is a pragmatic, utilitarian build — not the prettiest, but thoughtfully designed and dialed in over time. I built the conversion myself around my needs as a mountain biker, hiker, and skier. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it as much as I'd like, so I'm hoping it finds someone who will. Kitchen & Dining: The kitchenette is framed with common boards and 1/8" baltic birch plywood, with a butcher block countertop and a sink with a retractable nozzle. Cooking is handled by a portable isobutane stove burner and an induction burner. The fridge is a Dometic 1.9 CF unit with a freezer compartment. The dining setup is a 30x24" table on a Lagun mount — it swivels 360° and raises or lowers as needed. It's mounted to a bench seat with significant storage underneath. The van's passenger seat sits on a swivel base, so two people can sit comfortably and face each other for a meal. An Arctic Tern window mounted in the slider door provides a view and fresh airflow; it includes a slide-up/down screen and foil insulation so you can block bugs or sun as needed. Water: Two 5-gallon tanks sit under the sink — one fresh water tank plumbed to the sink via an electric pump, and one grey water tank connected to the drain. Heat & Ventilation: A MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe roof vent is mounted directly above the bed, ideal for pulling in fresh air while sleeping. For heat, a Velit gas heater is mounted below the fridge. It runs off regular gasoline and taps directly into the van's fuel tank — no diesel, no second fuel type to manage. 3M Thinsulate lines the walls and ceiling. A custom-cut foam bed liner sits between the van and the plywood floor. Power: The electrical system is built around a 206 Ah LiFePO4 house battery with 400 watts of solar on the roof. A DC-DC + MPPT charge controller handles solar input; when there's no sun, the system charges off the starter battery while driving. A 2,000-watt inverter with a remote switch powers the induction burner and any other AC appliances. Multiple USB power outlets are conveniently located throughout the van. Sleeping: The bed platform is mounted on struts above the garage/cargo bay. A queen mattress, slightly trimmed to fit, sleeps two in an east-west orientation with about 6' of length to stretch out. Shelving: Full-length shelving runs the driver's side of the van, built from 8020 aluminum extrusion with baltic birch plywood shelves. Stacking plastic bins keep things organized and bungee straps hold everything in place. The 8020 extrusion provides continuous mount points for hooks, a clothes line, or whatever you need. Garage / Cargo Bay: The garage floor has snap-in shop tiles to protect the plywood and contain dirty gear. An angled L-track tiedown offers flexibility for securing cargo or mounting a bike rack. A cargo divider keeps up to four 27-gallon bins in place. A ladder is mounted on the inside of one rear door (mainly for cleaning the solar panels), and a horse trailer door caddy on the other door doubles as a bedside table when you're in the bed. Audio: A Kenwood head unit with wireless and wired Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, and I upgraded the speakers. Lighting: 8 puck lights in a cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling, LED lighting under the bed platform for the cargo bay, and aftermarket fog lamps. Roof Rack: Two 200-watt solar panels are mounted to 8020 rails on the roof. The rails have continuous mount points for an awning, traction boards, cargo boxes, or whatever else you want to add. There's room for a second MaxxAir fan up front if you ever want one — we never found it necessary. Safety: Smoke, CO, and LP2 (propane) detectors, plus a fire extinguisher. Windows & Camp Mode: Custom window shades cover the front, driver, and passenger windows for full blackout. Custom vent panels slide onto the driver and passenger windows for camp mode airflow. Engine & Tires V6 engine with no known issues. All scheduled maintenance completed, oil and filters changed regularly. Stock tires replaced with Falken Wild Peak A/T tires that have plenty of tread remaining. Includes TPMS. Tire chains and socks included.
