1997 Volkwagen Eurovan Westfalia Camper

this camper was born in louisiana, but soon ventured to new mexico, where it had many adventures off the grid with its loving owners who added a large solar panel to the roof, and many electrical upgrades to allow for extended back to nature excursions. they raised the suspension a couple inches to allow for better clearance for their treks, and - living in warmer climates than iowa, added additional cooling capacity to the engine and drivetrain to keep the van happy. that said, both the air conditioner and the heater work fabulously well, as they were quite meticulous in the upkeep of the camper. in fact, along with the bus came a large box of books, manuals, and records for all the upgrades they made. i have been a life-long VW guy, having owned many many air-cooled vans, bugs, ghias, campers and such, over the years, but sold all the type 2s before marrying sue 15 years ago. she wanted a VW camper, and found this one, after a lengthy search. it was perfect. so i flew to new mexico to buy it for her, and drove it back. unfortunately, it was/is larger than she is comfortable with; her prior van experience was with a smaller toyota van, and this van IS much more substantial than one of those. i'm clever enough not to argue with her on this, it being her money, her choice. so it is with a VERY heavy heart that, after less than eight months - only 3000 miles have been added, with not a single camping experience - i list this for sale. it remains a PERFECT VW westie. better - in many respects - than my '67s or my trusty '77, all of which took me all across the country racing bicycles, because it has POWER and a/c. the floors are solid throughout, it's water tight, it gets around 20 mpg or so, and has been meticulously maintained by our mechanic here in des moines, who calls us to remind us when our time is coming up. we were SO very lucky to find this camper. it would have been ideal for us, our bicycles, and our travel dogs. but, someone else will get this beaut, which sue named "morticia," just because. sharped-eyed viewers will see morticia in one of the pictures i've included. she goes everywhere with me. anyway, check her out. morticia herself is NOT included in the deal, i'm sorry to say. but ask any questions. someone will have YEARS of pleasure with this low mileage dream. thanks for your time.
