Seller's Description
Listed for $28k, but open to offers. Meticulously built and cared. V8 engine gets >15mpg in the mountains of Colorado, with a full load. I graduated as a mechanical engineer and now run a handyman business. I bought this van with 50k miles and built the conversion to outlast the van. I have always driven non-aggressively and have the original copies of every service record from 50k miles to now (158k miles). I also have pictures taken throughout the build process, if you would like to see the framing and insulation behind the flooring/siding/ceiling/etc. Carfax report available. BETTER THAN A SPRINTER? This is not as luxurious as a new Mercedes Sprinter or Dodge Promaster. However, the main benefit is the cost and ease of repairs. These chevy vans are known to be extremely reliable. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and easy to install. Sprinters and Promaster often require certified sprinter techs to do repairs, parts are more expensive and less available. CAMPER CONVERSION Electrical: (300W Solar; 170 Ah Li Battery; 1200W Inverter) Oversized wires and solar array make this an extremely robust system. Combined with low voltage appliances, I have never run out of power. 3X Renogy 100W Solar Panels, 170 Ah Lithium Battery (Renogy), 2X 120V AC outlets (1200W inverter), open terminals to add extra appliances. Kitchenette: Camp Chef Stove, ARB Fridge/freezer (single compartment), stainless steel sink with high flow foot pump, 7 gallon fresh water supply (2nd identical 7 gallon tank, switches out easily, 14 gallon total), sink drains into 7 gallon grey tank (self contained camping). Refillable 5lb propane tank is DOT certified and stored in sealed-floor vented box. Exhaust fan is in the ceiling above the stove and vents smoke very effectively. Heat and Insulation: 2kW (thermal) Diesel Heater (LAVANER Pro), 1"-2" rigid board & spray foam The van is very well insulated and comes with a full set of window covers. In the winter I rarely use the diesel heater. I prefer heating up the car during my drive and letting the insulation keep that heat in. Combined with a zero degree sleeping bag, I have never ran my heater overnight and have only used it for short periods. The heater has always worked fine, but they are known to be finicky. I have the settings adjusted to accommodate higher altitude. The fuel tank and exhaust are installed outside/underneath the van. I use a handheld carbon monoxide detector whenever it is running. I only run it while I am awake and inside the van. Exhaust Fan, Vents, Cooling, Dehumidification: A MaxFan paired with an additional ceiling vent circulates air throughout the van. This acts as a great dehumidification cycle. Combined with the insulation and reflective window covers, the van stays relatively cool in hot climates. Bed: The pull out frame allows for a longer bed, compared to a common perpendicular bed frame design. 5'-10" X 4'-6" (5" shorter than a standard full). Double layer memory foam. Zipper/removable cushion covers, custom made with outdoor furniture grade fabric. Floor: bullet proof, made for hard ski boots, snow and mud. 1.5" framing, 1" insulation, 3/4" Ground Contact Treated Plywood, 2 coats primer, PVC coin matt liner (made for horse trailers) Storage: Ample storage, "garage" underneath bed and "closet" above driver seat. 3 ski racks (1 removable) with plenty of room to pile in more skis and boards. Separate hooks for a bicycle - I hung a small mountain bike, a large mountain bike may not fit. Shower pan: I built a shower pan into the floor, before realizing I did not need a shower. This could be easily finished with a drain and curtain, but it doesn't get in the way of anything. TIRES Summer Tires are in great shape (All terrain with 3 peak snow rating). Snow tires (Nokian Hakkapeliitta, currently on vehicle) are nearing the end of their life. Spare tire is in great shape (full size All terrain) SIGNIFICANT MAINTENANCE: Synthetic oil change & tire roto every 5K miles 154K Miles - Front End Steering/Suspension: serpentine belt, heavy duty springs, control arms, tie rods, pitman arm 150K Miles - Front & Rear Shocks 149K Miles - Brake Inspection (passed) 147K Miles - Differential Fluid Flush 142K Miles - Front Brakes: pads and rotors 142K Miles - Exhaust Manifold & Gasket 138K Miles - Full Oil Pan & Gasket 133K Miles - Transmission Lines & Fluid Flush 133K Miles - Full Vehicle Inspection: mechanic recommendations addressed over next 15K miles
