The designer, an electrical engineer, meticulously customized and perfected the interior over 3 years to maximize functionality and space for full off-grid backcountry van life. They lived in the van full-time for 16 months, traveling 60,000 miles. 6 months living and working full time in the van exploring the western states added 16,000 miles, a number of upgrades and improvements under new ownership. This van has been meticulously maintained. All maintenance records are available showing diligence with oil changes, tire maintenance, and other necessary services. The van is currently insured through State Farm with a clear title. ENGINE: 3.5L V6 eco boost turbo engine made crossing high mountain divides no problem, acceleration on the freeway is strong. You can manually downshift through 6 gears as needed on the downhills. There have been no issues with the engine or other systems. At 96,000 this Ford Transit’s "million-mile engine" is just getting warmed up for many more adventures. DRIVETRAIN: RWD easily navigates off road terrain with new BFG K02 off-road tires with warranty installed November 2024 (under 1000 miles). The setup offers high clearance, and aggressive tires perform well in all seasons and conditions. Backroads/offroad in the mountains, desert or beach - the van went there with no problem. POWER: Generously well-equipped with 777 watts from three solar panels (397, 190, and 190 watts). All on board appliances are easily powered while barely making a dent in battery capacity. Two of the solar panels have their own chargers and can be removed to create additional roof space if needed. The battery is LiFePO4 with 25.6V, 304Ah, and 7.7kWh of capacity (easily double or triple the average). A new (Feb 2024) Giandel 3000W inverter converts power for onboard use. System is cleverly redundant: a separate onboard charger keeps the van starter battery topped off and an alternator charger can charge while you drive if you choose to do so. Lastly, a shore power plug-in is also an option - but has never been needed or used. EXTERIOR FEATURES: Tinted windows on the sliding door, rear doors, and kitchen area. Exterior Thule Door Locks on front, side and back for added security. Cameras both front and back make parking this standard length van a breeze. Thule HideAway roof mounted awning extends off the side door for sun/rain protection with custom rain gutter to divert away from awning. The custom roof rack has an extension and two rollers on back and an access ladder on side. Made to fit, newly purchased and installed Bugscreen systems (May 2024) for the side: ‘Bugwall’, and the back: ‘Van Essential’. The van does come with a hitch. The rear axles are fitted with an Airlift system (new install July 2024), allowing leveling under the sleeping area. There is a 20 lb propane tank (for stove, water heater, heater) under exterior of van body, making access easy for the refill. INTERIOR TIP to TAIL: The van is fully insulated. The floor features hard cell foam under plywood, topped by waterproof luxury vinyl. Walls and ceiling have automotive grade 3M Thinsulate insulation finished with gorgeous wood strips. Buildup allows for a 6’ tall person to comfortably stand upright and move through the van. Custom headliner shelf above front seats adds significant storage space and includes a small safe bolted in for valuables. Kenwood digital receiver (head unit) offers Carplay Bluetooth for phone, music, accessing van info, and viewing rear or front cameras. A toggle switch offers the option to run the unit when the engine is off, so you can stream sound from the receiver with upgraded front speakers, rear speakers near bed, door tweeters, subwoofer + amp at any time. (Better speakers for movie night than just the laptop!) Aftermarket upgraded swivel captain’s chairs; both rotate 180°. Swivel Lagun countertop with mount assembles for desktop use from the swivel seats, or as added counter space when cooking in the kitchen. Extra countertop packs completely away when not in use. Tucked behind driver’s side is where the propane heater is ducted into the van for added heat if needed. Kitchen features an efficient Dometic fridge/freezer (CFX65DZ). Butcher block and custom stainless kitchen worktop surround a two-burner propane stove top. Space behind burners holds spices/oils/vinegars and is underneath a hand motion triggered & dimmable LED light so you don’t use cayenne instead of cinnamon. Four lights in the ceiling (dimmable) provide light for the main part of the van. Space beneath the range holds a compact (new in 2024) electric oven/air fryer/toaster/dehydrator. Baltic Birch plywood cabinets and drawers provide plenty of room for dry storage. Kitchen comes ready to go - complete with silverware, cooking tools, pots, pans and lids and Instapot Ultra. Across from the kitchen is the shower/water system. Water is stored in a 42 gallon custom molded water tank secured inside above the passenger side rear wheel to balance weight. Battery bank sits across on drivers’ side rear wheel for even weight distribution. On-demand propane hot water heater is near the shower, continuously feeding hot water as needed (propane off gassing gets vented out the van back). A full-size shower sits inside the van over a custom welded aluminum tub. Curved curtain setup allows water to be contained when in use and tucked away when done leaving tub for other uses. Water discharges to the ground through a drain in the tub floor.
