Seller's Description

1992 MOPAR CUSTOM TV NEWS VAN. One of a Kind! V6 3.3L automatic. 42,000miles (67,000km) give or take. (Odometer quit at 37190) Chrysler Town and Country platform (same as Dodge Caravan). Uses standard Mopar parts. GVWR 6500 All fiberglass body. 17.5 feet long 8ft high. LED displays on 3 sides (Not working but originally would have shown news flashes). Custom made for New Jersey TV/News Broadcast company by US Motor Corporation on Mopar platform. Limited edition. No one has ever seen one before--not even broadcast vehicle dealers. Mechanics scratch their heads. Collector’s or museum item. Or just a very cool van to drive or camp in. A real head turner. THE GOOD —Very low miles. I bought this van in June 2015 when it had 31,000 original miles. Odometer stopped at 37,190 but it has only driven a few hundred miles each year since. I estimate the mileage to be around 41k or 42k now. —Runs great —Fresh inspection sticker (to Oct 2025) —Brakes work well —New front axles —Tires have excellent tread. 215/75R15. Two Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S and two Maxtrek SU-800 —Fits in a parking space. —Dimensions OUTSIDE: 17 1/2 feet long, 6 feet 8 inches wide, 8 feet high (at highest point). INSIDE (see photo) Rear opening is 56 inches high and 61 inches wide. Center space is 74 inches high and 69.5 inches wide. Rear section is 66 inches high. —Heater works (but how good I can’t say) —Garaged between 2015 and May 2024 —Since 2015 not driven in winter (except 1 or 2 local trips) —Basic camper items include excellent folding bed platform over a storage box and a sink. (Futon and quilt just for show—not included) —Van is clean underneath (except for usual surface rust) QUIRKS —Front entry is only through the driver’s door. Passenger side is solid wall. Friends try to get in that side, haha! (Fiberglass vehicle rollover safety feature) —Engine is accessed through the hinged panel behind the dash. A bit awkward. —The battery was hard to access in the front so it was moved to behind the driver’s seat WORK IT NEEDS —A/C up front appears not to be working —Radio turns on but I haven’t heard sound —The speedo does not work and the odometer stopped working at 37,190 miles after a few years —Gas gauge is unreliable but low gas warning sound works —Lights in rear cabin not working —Driver door window broke. Plexiglass replacement taped in —Fiberglass panel under front bumper is cracked (see photo) —Rubber door seals need replacing —No opening windows except small sliders on driver door and opposite side —Wipers work but are a bit floppy. The tubes for washer fluid pop off on accasion. —Driver’s seat cloth is torn. —Carpet removed. Will need to be replaced. (Floor feels a bit flimsy—may need reinforcing). —Carpeting on walls is peeling. Where there was insulation it’s thin or disintegrated. All needs replacing —Very occasionally the headlights and indicators start blinking temporarily on closing the door or when the battery is reconnected. It lasts a minute or two and then goes away. There appears to be a short somewhere that I haven’t found. —LED Display not operational. Being from 1992 it’ll need new panels. —Camper build needs improving or rebuilding: Cabinets and other woodwork are a bit rough or chunky. One door is broken faucets not connected to water tank. There is a water pump but it is not not hooked up. I imagine it would work but cannot guarantee. A 5 gallon water bottle could be attached under the sink for gray water OTHER INFO —I am the third owner. —Previous owner said they got 17mpg. I got an average of 15 —Roof-top A/C unit was not working when I got it. I have since removed it and installed a second opening skylight. —The generator had been removed and the previous owner built a wooden unit around where it used to be housed AS IS. No warranties expressed or implied. Tags and insurance for test-drive. It can be driven from the residential lot it is on. Since it’s a 32 year-old vehicle that has only been doing occasional local driving I would recommend a trailer or flatbed for a journey further than your AAA membership can do. Just to be on the safe side. If you arrange towing I will supervise the pick-up.
