Seller's Description
For sale is our 1987 Vanagon camper with a 2.5 liter subaru engine, automatic transmission, clean title. We’ve had it since 2021 and have loved road tripping and camping in it. We'd like to pass it on to someone who will use and love it! We bought it in Durango from the fellow who swapped the engine. He is a professional mechanic and did it right! He also kept all the paperwork, which we will pass along with the sale of the van. The van had 157,000 miles (see pic of odometer) on it when he swapped the original engine with an early aughts 2.5 liter Subaru engine. He then bought and installed a brand new short block, so when he sold it to us it was basically a new engine. Among other parts that were swapped was the dashboard (and the odometer with it). The new odometer was set to 0 miles and we’ve put about 10,000 miles on it, hence the odometer reading, currently. The engine swap made the original dash instruments incompatible, so most of the important info is displayed on a digital instrument (Ultra Gauge) on the windshield (picture included). We would not hesitate to go cross country tomorrow if we could. Our last big trip was from Durango to Victoria, BC--we went the mountainous way (both ways), including across Nevada's "The Loneliest Road In America"! This thing is super reliable. It won't overheat going over mountain passes and it won't leave you in the lurch! The upper pop up bed is great, the pop up canvas is in great shape and has three zippered windows. The roof does not leak. Other modifications: > 1.5 in. lift > Newer all terrain tires > Original fridge was pulled–that space is now storage > Nice protective, easy-to-clean rubber mat flooring > New headlight bulbs–headlights are really nice on this rig! > 2 in. hitch receiver! > 16” alloy wheels > Just got updated lights for the shifter console & fixed the dashboard lights > New windshield wiper switch (previously the front washer fluid pump wasn't working) > There’s a lot more! Other things: > Double burner stove (works great!) > Sink (and fresh water tank) work great! > Bottom and top beds are comfy! > This van comes with the Vanagon ‘bible’. > Always been a non-smoking vehicle. > No air conditioning (we have parts for it, tho) > No fridge--it was pulled before we got it. The space where it was is nice storage, tho! Note: This van is not in pristine condition–it’s 37 years old, after all. It has dents, scrapes, and chipped paint–all cosmetic. The largest dent/scrape is in the sliding door–that’s our dumb mistake when we scraped up against a cement bollard at a gas station. We pushed the dent out, but it’s obviously scraped and looks like a couple paint chips want to come off (pictured). There are also some very small rusty looking spots--the worst has not changed in the 4 years we've had it (pictured). The after-market radio (Bluetooth compatible) works, but is too deep for the dashboard so it hangs out an inch or so--super ghetto looking, but functional with two speakers in the back. And a rock chip on the front windshield has turned into a crack (located in the middle of the windshield), but does not obscure driving or 'passengering' :) (pictured). Thanks for looking :)
