Yes diesel is more expensive in some parts but it will get you better mileage overall. This van gets us around 25mph highway and 21mph on busy roads. The engine looks basically brand new and has no rust. It has been easy to maintain and parts can be purchased on Amazon. We have found mechanics along the way that have helped with little fixes (which I’ve invested at least $10,000 in it mechanically, new tires, and new door seals, etc. over the years so it really has been tended to and updated beyond the build/design investment which makes this 2002 such a gem! I’ve owned this van for a few years and it wasn’t used long distances as I used it to travel to local festivals as a vendor. However, finally this spring and summer I was able to bring her across the country from the East to the West Coast and she ran so well! I used mostly iOverlander for free spots in between working festivals as a vendor and visiting friends since this van allowed us to be fully off grid without plugging in for all of spring, summer and early fall on the West Coast. The only thing needed to fill up on in between is your water (especially if your going to use the shower) which is easy to find through iOverlander on your travels as well.
