Seller's Description
This classic and sought-after VW camper van combines the drivability of a mid-size van with accommodations to sleep four and camp off-grid. With its VR6 engine and long wheelbase, it cruises smoothly on the freeway compared to earlier VW campers. With Winnebago-outfitted features like a pop top, pivoting front seats, removable tables and a sliding rear seat that converts into a bed, it is a comfortable space for cooking, hanging out and sleeping. A two burner propane stove and 3-way fridge make up the kitchen (supplied by a 7-gallon propane tank). The sink and rear sprayer are supplied by a 12 gallon freshwater tank (with 5 gallon graywater storage). All the curtains/blinds are fully functional for complete privacy. It includes the third-row bench seat for seating up to 6 passengers. I inherited this van from my dad, who was the original owner. He maintained it meticulously and kept thorough records of everything that has been done. At age 88, he decided he was getting too old to enjoy camping in it and had a bunch of work done to get it ready to sell, including transmission service, new shocks, engine and transmission mounts, neutral safety switch, automatic door locks, CV joint, and other repairs. It still had some minor issues so I took over and made some improvements such as: * Upgraded 16” wheels with AT tires that only have a few hundred miles on them * Replaced pop top canvas and seal, and repaired some minor cracks in the pop top * Replaced cracked ceiling vent with Maxxair mini fan * Overhauled 3-way fridge with upgraded burner assembly, new thermocouple and high altitude vent so propane mode works more reliably * Upgraded house electrical system with Victron IP22 AC charger, new 105 Ah deep cycle marine battery, and new DC charging solenoid * Replaced all house lighting with LEDs * Did a deep clean and fixed some minor paint issues typical of a 30-year-old vehicle * Installed a 2” hitch with trailer wiring Overall, my goal was to make sure everything was functional in its stock configuration, choosing not to install solar or a dedicated 12V fridge, which would be worthwhile, easy upgrades for those intending to spend a lot of time off-grid. All the Winnebago-installed camper stuff is fully functional including the fridge and propane heater, so it’s ready for your next adventure. Original engine and transmission with 157k miles, which still run smooth and strong. Van spent its life in Washington state (no salt on roads there) and saw minimal winter usage, so not much rust considering its age.
