I took cardboard boxes and built models of the things I wanted in the van. I designed a van with 2 sleeping places because I hoped to have friends come along for portions of my journey, and had it built out to my specifications. I wanted it to be safe, comfortable and lovely. For safety, I had a Thunderbolt security system installed in the side and rear doors. I added a rearview camera and cameras to record both front and rear views of the motion in case I needed documentation of an accident. The second bed came out from under the bench seat and the comfortable cushions rode around in the back during the day. It became my bed during both of our trips. The 3 burner stove made it easy to cook our meals and the oven cooked many batches of chocolate chip cookies which we gave to our fellow campers. There is a super easy composting toilet and an interior shower along with large fresh and grey water tanks. I deliberately bought a heavy duty cargo van because I wanted a nimble but well-appointed home to carry me for months - or years with ease. Originally, there was a microwave but I took it out once I realized I needed the storage space more than microwave popcorn! But one can certainly be added back in. I had the van interior painted a soft yellow with blue and grey upholstery features. I got so many compliments on how lovely it is. Ironically, because I planned my 2 journeys as a solo traveler, I wound up with a traveling companion who became my life partner! We spent 4 months in the van in the summer of 2022 and 2 months in 2023. We are now ready for an entirely new adventure and are happy to be passing our beloved van on to the next happy campers.
